Sugar Skull Illustrator Tutorial

March 28, 2016

First click on this link below to download the needed files!

This tutorial is going to show you how to create a vector illustration for poster and t-shirt design. However we're gonna skip a few steps in the tutorial and get right into tracing the sugar skull with the pen tool. Below is the video tutorial on how to start tracing with the pen tool.

After you finish tracing your sugar skull, COME GET ME!!... and I will show you how to compound your vector shapes and strokes into one piece. You must do this after you finish tracing your sugar skull. After you do that, follow the tutorial on this next video and it will show you how to color it. You don't have to color it exactly as the tutorial says, you can customize it however you want to.

After you color it and add the flowers on the side, it's time to add text. In one of the folders that you downloaded, there's a folder called "Fonts". In there are 3 different types of fonts and you need to install each font. Set it up the same way as the example shows. After that, watch the last video that shows you how to prepare and export it out for print. Then you'll be all done! :)

Color Pop Images

January 25, 2016

Your new assignment for the year is to do a color pop composition. Find 3 different colored images and we will take these into Photoshop to edit them. After you take it into Photoshop, you will duplicate the original image onto another layer, convert your duplicated image to black and white and then on that same layer erase the area that you want emphasis on color. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I will give you till the end of the week to submit your 3 images.

Also must include a bar code with a price that usually appears at the bottom left or right of the cover and lastly the comic book issue number. These will be due Friday, February 6. January 6, 2015

Hey guys,

So like I said, I wanted to start using my blog to assist you with your projects from all the way from listing project details to tutorials and videos for you to watch. Sooooo... in case you haven't seen the email I sent already, here are the details for your first project of the new semester.

Product Advertisement

Majority of y'all have already picked a product and got approval from me, for those of you who haven't need to let me know asap so you can have first dibs on it! Keep in mind that you need to create 3 different compositions (designs) for your product. The dimensions need to be 8.5 x 11 inches or vice-versa, just depends on if you want a portrait or landscape style design. Your composition needs to have the product visible (obviously) and also the logo/brand name/company name somewhere on it. Think of these ads as a page to be put into a magazine, how are you going to make your advertisement appealing to be able to sell this product? You can use images off the web or if you want to hand draw anything that's fine too because we can always scan it in. If you have any questions or if something is unclear, please let me know.

This project will be due Friday, January 16 and no later! This is your last photoshop project and we will be moving on to learn Adobe Illustrator afterwards.

Have fun! :)

Here are some examples of what I'm looking for...
